Keolis renewed as the operator of Filéo, the network serving the Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport hub

Keolis renewed its contract for the operation of Filéo, the on-demand transport service serving the Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport zone, with Île-de-France mobilités, Greater Paris’ public transport authority, on 18 October 2017.

The new public service delegation contract will generate cumulative revenue of 77 million euros. As part of the contract, Keolis will also operate Express bus lines connecting with the airport (100 Persan-Roissypole, 101 Chelles-Roissypole) and will be in charge of building a new environmentally-friendly depot in Mesnil-Amelot. The Group will enrich its current offer in order to better meet the daily mobility needs of the inhabitants of the 28 communes surounding the airport hub and the employees who work there. And, in keeping with Île-de-France mobilités energy transition goals, vehicles will operate entirely on natural gas (GNV – Bio GNV) from 2020 onwards.

Specific daily mobility needs

With 550,000 inhabitants and 300,000 employees, the CDG airport hub is a major residential and employment zone. Spread over 259 km2 and 28 communes, the area’s population is dependant on public transport to get around on a daily basis and is also home to a large number of employees who do shift work or work at night. In addition, 43,000 businesses are also dispersed across the area.

New flexible and customised solutions to faciliate journeys

Taking the region’s economic and territorial constraints into account, Keolis has evolved the current Filéo offer, now structured around 10 bus lines which replace regular bus service in the evening and at night 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In order to make Filéo, Europe’s largest on-demand transport service, even more flexible, and to better respond to the diverse needs of its passengers, the Group will use its intermodality expertise and dynamic transport know-how.

In addition to the Express bus lines, Filéo (http://fileo.com) will also offer complementary mobility solutions such as the autocar, minicar and shared vehicles developped by LeCab, the Group’s private driver subsidiary. Keolis will also rely on its partner, Instant System, to develop carsharing in the region thanks to the creation of R’PROcovoiturage, an online platform connecting carshare drivers and potential passengers.

A simplified Filéo offer

Keolis is offering a new customer itinerary to facilitate the daily life of passengers. In addition to a website, the inhabitants and employees of the area can organise and plan their journeys with the help of an Android or iOS mobile app that delivers passenger information in real time (itineraries, hours, estimated vehicle arrival time) and a call center that allows them to book their journeys.

With the renewal of the Fileo contract, Keolis demonstrates its capacity to develop mobility services adapted to the needs of regular and occassional passengers throughout the region. We are proud that Île-de-France mobilités has renewed its confidence in us, as part of its ambitious regional strategy to improve public transport in both densely populated and outer-suburban areas. On-demand transport is a truly innovative form of mobility, full of potential. Keolis wants to be a key player in this  market, and is innovating via partnerships with LeCab and Instant System to develop  a multimodal and customised transport offer, adapted to the specificities of each community.

Keolis Canada’s “Santa Claus Express” collecting toys on Quebec streets

From 27 November to 19 December 2017, Santa Claus is getting some help from Keolis Canada, who is making sure disadvantaged children will receive toys on the evening of 24 December. During this time, the Group’s subsidiary is inviting the inhabitants of Quebec, its network passengers, partners and employees to donate gently used or new toys. Keolis Canada is circulating buses decorated with Christmas colours to collect the toys on the Orleans Express lines from Rimouski to Montreal, passing through Quebec, Terrebonne and Repentigny. To optimise this first edition of the “Santa Claus Express”, collection boxes have been installed in Keolis Canada’s urban, airport, and school bus networks, and also inside schools and shopping centres. Posters advertising the campaign are displayed around the network in order to inform passengers and collect the largest number of toys possible.

A solidary initiative launched by Keolis Canada employees

Conceived in partnership with regional charity organisations, the campaign has been created by Keolis Canada employees and requires the involvement of all of its teams and those of its subsidiaries, including Orleans Express and Skyport. The initiative represents Keolis’ commitment to social responsibility, which notably aims to reinforce social connections between communities. For Keolis Canada, this commitment to social responsibility is best shown through the Group’s strong presence at the heart of local communities and the contribution of employees working to help those less fortunate.

At a time when the magic of the holiday season surrounds us, we are excited and proud to lead this children’s campaign, which perfectly corresponds with our values and the strong commitment of our teams.  The mobility sector helps unite communities, and we still believe in generosity, the main driving force behind this initiative.

7.3km of additional track for the Gold Coast light rail

Two and a half years after the launch of the Gold Coast light rail, in the state of Queensland on the east coast of Australia, Keolis inaugurated a 7.3km network extension, on 17 December 2017.

This extension is designed to facilitate access to major points of interest in the sixth largest city in Australia (565,000 residents) and is part of a contract awarded to the Group by the state of Queensland in May 2016.

Ready for the 2018 Commonwealth Games

The G:link network (http://ridetheg.com.au), now totalling 20.3km, has also added four new trams and three additional stops.  Thanks to this new extension, passengers can now access the Helensvale rail station located in the north of the city and connect to trains servicing Brisbane, the capital of the state of Queensland. Its opening also allows Keolis’ Australian subsidiary, Keolis Downer, to better manage the large numbers of passengers expected to attend the Commonwealth Games, which will take place on the Gold Coast from 4 to 15 April 2018.

G:link, a network showcasing Keolis’ know-how

G:link is the first greenfield transport project to have been funded by a public-private partnership in Australia and respresents a real operational performance model. With a 97% punctuality and 90% customer satisfaction rate, the network has seen a more than 32% increase in patronage per year since its launch in July 2014. Carrying 660,000 passengers per month, it supports the state of Queensland’s ambitions to accelerate a modal shift towards sustainable transport less focused on cars. This issue is critical for Gold Coast, whose population is expected to double to 1 million residents by 2040.

Australia, a key source of international development for Keolis

The launch of the G:link network extension caps off an exceptional year for Keolis Downer. The Keolis subsidiary, a joint-venture between Keolis (51%) and Downer (49%), operates bus networks in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. On 1 July 2017, it launched the Newcastle network, the first comprehensive mobility network awarded to a private operator in Australia. Then, in September 2017, Keolis Downer was awarded a 7-year extension to continue operating Melbourne’s tram network, the largest in the world with 250km of double track and 24 lines. Finally, Keolis has been awarded a pilot project for innovative on-demand transport solutions in the Sydney region in August 2017.

A new six-year public service delegation contract

On 9 November 2017, Amiens Metropole, made up of 33 communes including the Picardy capital in Northern France, announced it was renewing its trust in Keolis. The Group, which has operated the Ametis network since 1 June 2012, was chosen to continue operating the network as part of a new public service delegation contract starting on 1 January 2018 for a period of six years and four months. The new contract will be signed on 30 November 2017 and will generate a total cumulative revenue of 221.4 million euros. As part of this contract, Keolis has committed to expanding the mobility offer to better serve the community’s 180,000 residents.

A new multimodal offer and four high-frequency bus lines to increase network patronage

Keolis is committed to increasing patronage on the Ametis network by 28% by the end of the contract in mid-2023. To achieve this goal, Keolis Amiens, in partnership with Amiens Metropole, will reorganise the network around four high-frequency bus lines covering a total of 48km in the region.  These four lines will account for 75% of overall passenger traffic. The high-frequency lines will be complemented by regular bus lines and other transport services including car sharing, park and ride facilities and secure bike parking stations.

Keolis committed to sustainable mobility

Amiens Métropole, certified in 2015 as a ‘positive energy region for green growth’, has major ambitions for its transition to green energy. As a result, from 2019 onwards Keolis will operate 43 new 100% electric buses. These zero emission vehicles will be used on three out of four of the network’s high-frequency bus lines, representing 30% of the network’s total bus fleet.
In addition, from 1 January 2018 Keolis will take back the management of the Buscyclette bike rental service (previously managed by another operator) in order to better promote mobility solutions that are sustainable and better adapted to local lifestyles. Other than services covering both short and long term bike rental and secure parking facilities, Keolis will coordinate and promote of soft modes via school student campaigns and the introduction of ‘mobility packs’ for businesses.
The operation and maintenance of bus and bicycle fleets will be provided by a new certified High Environmental Quality centre.

A digital passenger journey from 2019

In 2019 Keolis Amiens will launch a new ticketing system focused on digitalisation. Thanks to this new solution, passengers will be able to buy their transport ticket online and receive them on their smartphone. They will also be able to opt for ‘open payment’ via bankcard or payment by direct debit, based on actual consumption. More than 50 automated ticketing machines will also be located across the network, to ensure better service quality.

We are thrilled to continue working with Amiens Métropole to help increase the attractiveness of the region by reorganising the existing transport network. Keolis supports Amiens Métropole’s decision to promote renewable energy, and the transition to electric mobility solutions.

Keolis Brest improves customer experience with robot

A welcoming robot working next to employees in the Bibus customer service centre

From 21 November 2017 and until the end of the year, employees at the Bibus network office, Brest Metropole’s public transport network operated by Keolis, have been working alongside a new colleague, an interactive robot. Known as ‘Heasy’ and measuring 1.55m, the robot welcomes customers and provides excellence service when giving them information about bus and tram timetables, travel itineraries and which transport tickets are best adapted to their needs.
Thanks to this digital aide, employees can concentrate on more high-value added activities such as advising passengers and ticket sales.

Algorithms and sensors providing a new passenger experience

Developped and produced in France by the start-up Hease Robotics  (http://heaserobotics.com), Heasy is the first interactive kiosk robot designed for public spaces (shopping centres, boutiques, train stations, airports, tourism offices, museums, sports centres, etc.).
The robot, equipped with a bright 19” screen and a tablet to quickly assist customers, also has cameras which allow it to analyse the surrounding environment and avoid obstalces in order to move around. Thanks to a facial recognition algorithm, it is able to detect visitors. Heasy also knows how to find the best position possible in order to interact with the public.

Heasy launches applications specifically tailored to its location, like in Brest with the Bibus network’s passenger information solutions. Heasy gets its smarts from services based on ‘machine learning’ (or automatic learning) and captures the attention of the public thanks to its personality, playful design and reassuring appearance.

Hease Robotics: welcoming robots made in France

Hease Robotics is a French robot manufacturer for professional service industries, and especially retail and customer relations. Based in the city of Lyon, the start-up was created in 2016 and now has 13 employees with the aim of taking over 30% of the market by 2019. The Heasy robot, which was presented at CES in Las Vegas in January 2017 and at the RNTP trade show from 10 to 12 October 2017, is its first functional prototype.

Innovating all stages of the passenger journey

Keolis Brest is the first Group subsidiary to trial this innovative, 100% made in France solution, developped and produced by the Lyon-based start-up Hease Robotics. This trial is part of the Group’s innovation strategy which aims to invent the mobility of tomorrow and continue motivating passengers to use shared and sustainable transport. This goal is achieved mainly by the development of new digital solutions which enhance the passenger mobility experience at every stage of their journey, wherever they go: home, the customer service centre or during their journeys.

As a partner of our Bibus employees, Heasy delivers simple and practical information. This allows our employees to dedicate more time to aiding and assisting our customers. We are proud to launch this trial at Brest Metropole, a community strongly engaged in digital and certified French Tech+.

Cyril Mascé, Marketing Director, Keolis Brest

We are very pleased to have been chosen by Keolis to trial the future of customer relations in our service centre. Our customer service employees are extremely busy and do not always have the time to respond to certain requests. Heasy is able to deliver quality service on its own.

Keolis Downer enters the playing field with the Australian Open

Each year Yarra Trams transport hundreds of thousands of passengers to some of Australia’s premier events, including the Formula One Grand Prix, White Night Melbourne and the Australian Open tennis.

More than 743,000 tennis fans from across the world flocked to the Australian Open, a record attendance for the event. During the two weeks of the tournament, Melbourne’s tram network was on show to the world, transporting more than 488,000 passenger trips to and from the tennis.

Yarra Trams pulls an all-nighter to serve passengers

During the White Night Melbourne festival, which ran from 7pm Saturday 19 February to 7am the following morning, almost 7,000 tram services ran throughout the night to ensure passengers could get to and from the all-night event.

Trams ran at a five to 10 minute frequency during peak periods to keep people moving, with service changes in place to keep the city centre open for the major event. The successful service delivery during these events is due to forward planning and the hard work of the officers and employees on the ground, as well as collaboration across the depots and the Operations Centre.

During the Formula One Grand Prix at the end of March 2018, Melbourne’s tram network will be the main mode of public transport to get hundreds of thousands of people to the event. Last year we transported 85 per cent of the Grand Prix crowd, transporting more than 230,000 passenger trips.

KeolisAmey Docklands named ‘Rail Operator of the Year’ at the 2018 London Transport Awards

KeolisAmey Docklands (KAD), the joint-venture between Keolis and its partner Amey which has operated the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) automated metro in London since December 2014, was named ‘Rail Operator of the Year’ at the 15th London Transport Awards (LTA) on 1 March 2018. This prize rewards the constant efforts of local teams to deliver the best service possible to the XXX daily passengers of the line, which is an essential part of the London network managed by Transport for London (Tfl). The panel also awarded Anisha Mistry, a KAD employee responsible for internal communications, the ‘Stuart Ross Young Communications Professional’ award, which recognises communication professionals under the age of 30 working in the transport industry.

KeolisAmey Docklands honoured for its unique social inclusion programme

One week before being named Rail Operator of the Year, KeolisAmey Docklands was awarded the ‘Customer Service Excellence’ award at the 20th Rail Business Awardsfor its ‘Back on Track’ programme. This is the second time that the Keolis subsidiary has been honoured for this innovative industry-leading programme, which assists and encourages National Health Service (NHS) Mental Health service users dealing with various psychological health issues (eg. depression, anxiety and claustrophobia) to confidently and safely regain their freedom to travel and integrate into their community.

Quality, health, safety and environment: a comprehensive industry certification

KeolisAmey Docklands has also recently been accredited for its Integrated Management System (IMS). The accreditation brings together KAD's three existing certificates: ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management and OHSAS 18001 for safety management into an integrated single business management system. This integrated approach allows KAD to align all of their common processes, risks and compliance obligations and operate more efficiently in line with their business strategy. This triple certification, which lowers costs by combining audits for more than one system, awards KAD’s Health, Safety, Quality and Environment department as well as the heads of departments and managers across the business.

I am very pleased that KeolisAmey Docklands has been named Rail Operator of the Year, which we owe to our team’s dedication to deliver excellent service every day to DLR passengers.

EFFIA strengthens its presence in Greater Paris with five new contracts

EFFIA to manage three new park and ride facilities in Greater Paris

EFFIA, the leader in providing parking to train stations and the manager of six large Parisian car parks at train stations, has been awarded the contract to manage three new park and ride facilities in Greater Paris.

  • SNCF has chosen EFFIA to operate two new park and ride facilities in Val d’Oise, at the Saint-Gratien (315 spots over six half-levels) and Persan-Beaumont (487 spots over four levels) train stations. The contracts will start on 1 January 2018 for a period of 15 years and include managing renovations to the two sites. EFFIA will also manage the modernisation of parking spaces with new signage at Saint-Gratien, as well as the modernisation of the Persan-Beaumont site in an effort to earn its ‘Park and Ride’ certification from the Greater Paris transport authority, Île-de-France Mobilités (formerly known as ‘STIF’). To facilitate the mobility of passengers who use bikes to get to the station, a zone dedicated to cyclists will be also be created at Persan-Beaumont, to hold up to 40 bikes. The management of these two sites will generate an annual revenue of 320,000 euros.

  • After a six month project led by EFFIA’s technical department, the subsidiary began operating on 2 November 2017 a new raised park and ride facility, with 630 places over two levels at a train station in Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons. EFFIA will manage the site for the next 30 years. By allowing drivers to leave their cars close to the station or a transport hub, the park and ride facilities serve as a major incentive for people who would otherwise drive into employment zones in Greater Paris.

EFFIA encourages car-sharing in Greater Paris train stations

To encourage the development of shared mobility in Greater Paris and provide more synergy between various modes of transport, EFFIA has partnered with Transilien and iDVROOM, a player in the daily car-sharing market. Until 30 April 2018, users who carpool to a station can benefit from a 20% discount on monthly parking in 16 Greater Paris park and ride facilities operated by EFFIA. This trial will last three months and will potentially be extended to other EFFIA park and ride facilities.

The first trial of an on-demand transport service started on 26 March 2018 in Macquarie Park, located in a suburb of Sydney. This trial is part of the New South Wales Government’s On-Demand Public Transport Pilot Program and the Future Transport Technology Roadmap.

The service is called Keoride and is operated by Keolis Downer, Keolis’ Australian subsidiary, and powered by Via, the leading developer of shared ride technology. This new ride sharing service will provide a personalised, reliable and efficient service to local communities, and encourage the use of public transport for anyone in the Macquarie Park surrounding area. Passengers will be picked up from a designated point within the Macquarie Park precinct to a designated point close to their destination. Keoride operates exclusively to and from the central precinct in Macquarie Park.

The additional flexibility and convenience offered by this on demand transport service complements existing public transport options, helping to reduce personal car usage, pollution and congestion.

Keoride uses the latest technology

Keoride uses Via’s revolutionary technology, which is already powering transport solutions across the United States, Europe, and New Zealand, totaling over 25 million shared rides to date.

The Keoride app will match passengers who are travelling in the same direction and calculate an optimised flexible route to pick them up and take them to their destination.

Via's powerful technology is redefining mobility across the globe, seamlessly integrating with public transit infrastructure to provide on-demand dynamic transportation solutions. We are delighted to be partnering with Keolis Downer and TfNSW to help Sydney lead the way in mobility innovation through the launch of this convenient, affordable, and eco-friendly service.
Daniel Ramot, co-founder and CEO of Via
We are excited to collaborate with TfNSW to transform the public transport network by implementing on demand transport services that focus on the passenger. By testing innovative first and last connectivity mile solutions, we provide more choices to passengers and a viable alternative to the car. This trial will provide valuable insights for the future development of timetable-less services in NSW.
